Some things jumped off the page at me from Randie Mayo’s calisthenics week 3 blog;
Although repeatedly answering the questions posed, something triggering town recommends not to do, this exercise generated a great deal of interesting people and ideas to work from.
“Her grandmother, always searching, searching for the bottle caps,
the linen, and the eyes of her cats as if they could bring everything back.”
This character interested me. Something about the specifics of her doings. Reading chapter 2, in The writing experiment, one might like to try doing a character in action poem with any number of these sorts of interesting people. Giving names or attributing more specifics as well as going through a series of actions performed.
“It was Lindsay who always sat across from us at the cafeteria,
her sweater covered in sauce as if she painted it on herself.”
This is another example of a very specific and interesting character, imagine what might happen if we focused on her in action as she goes through her day leading up to this imagery or beginning with this image and going through the remainder of her day, it would not matter which direction we went because of the specifics Randie has written, something even more interesting would likely come from it.
The specifics of these two characters really jumped off the page. I think there are at least two good character in action poems here.
